The Operations and Facilities Manager (OFM) is responsible for maintaining high standards of professionalism and excellence across many aspects of the Museum's operations. This position is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing organization in a senior leadership role. The OFM will report to the Museum’s Director.

The OFM oversees maintenance of the Museum building and its systems—including all carpentry, electrical, engineering, and painting work—to ensure that equipment and facilities are functioning properly and in accordance with all applicable rules, guidelines, permits, and codes.

The OFM also plays a vital role in ensuring the security of the building and artwork on display and in storage, as well as implementing appropriate health and safety procedures for visitors and staff. In addition to serving as the Museum’s primary representative with the local police and fire departments and other municipal agencies, the OFM manages security needs for the many exhibition openings, programs, and special events (both Museum-related and external) that take place on the premises.

This position also acts as the liaison between employees and our HR firm for all HR and payroll related procedures, including approving hours, time off requests, and ensuring new hires are onboarded in a timely manner, as well as addressing any HR and office management issues that may arise.

• Bachelor's degree

• At least 5 years of operations and facilities management experience in a museum or comparable institution

• Substantial knowledge of security and safety protocols, building operations, and systems for facilities that host a high daily volume of visitors

• Strong leadership, relationship management, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to manage multiple teams

• Proven ability to supervise and train staff, effectively improve team performance, and adapt workflows and procedures toward efficiency, collaboration, and service

• Experience managing staff and familiarity with general labor guidelines

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including speaking to large groups and with all levels of leadership

• Experience reviewing financial statements, building budgets, and estimating expenses

• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to effectively manage changing systems and circumstances

• Excellent time management, strong organizational and analytical skills, and accurate attention to detail

• Exceptional judgment, professional demeanor, and discretion when handling confidential, sensitive matters

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite G-suite

Responsibilities:

• Manage and review performance of a staff of 5-10 team members, including security, custodial and maintenance, engineering, carpentry, and the electrical and painters' shops

• Assess staffing needs across multiple departments, including projected overtime demands and associated expenses

• Oversee maintenance, construction, and renovation projects for the Museum's facilities, including exhibition-related activities and special events

• Ensure that best practices for security, safety, and property management are consistently adopted and followed

• Establish procedures for disaster preparedness

• Perform annual strategic and financial planning

• Review documentation for capital leases, negotiate contract terms, and oversee regular maintenance of equipment

• Direct a wide range of vendors, including engineers and technicians, with regard to Museum systems and operations

• Work productively and collaboratively with Museum staff at all levels
