Umberto Allemandi - In Memorian

Magazzino Italian Art joins the international community of scholars, curators, and readers in mourning the loss of Umberto Allemandi, who passed away on March 9, 2026, his eighty-eigth birthday.

Allemandi was the founder of the eponymous publishing house and of Il Giornale dell’Arte, which he established in 1983 and directed for many years. It was the first Italian newspaper dedicated entirely to the visual arts. Under his leadership, the publication transformed the way art was reported and discussed in Italy, establishing a new model for cultural journalism that brought together scholarship, critical debate, and close attention to the activities of museums, galleries, and the art market.
