In Memoriam: Remo Salvadori
May 12, 2026

Remo Salvadori was an internationally-renowned Italian artist who held a prominent place within the generation of artists following Arte Povera and Conceptual Art. Born in Cerreto Guidi, in the province of Florence, in 1947, Salvadori lived and worked in Milan. Since the 1970s, he developed a personal artistic language through sculpture, installation and site-specific interventions which effectively bridged Arte Povera with later artistic movements. Certain recurring geometrical forms in his practice are freighted with cosmic and existential symbolism, as can be seen in the recently installed fountain—Una sorgente nel punto dello sguardo e betulla—on the grounds of Magazzino Italian Art. According to the curator and critic, Germano Celant: “Salvadori’s work corresponds, in its format, to a reductive, minimalist condition of creation…” Indeed, Salvadori’s art is inevitably experienced as a revelation. This profoundly philosophical artist’s longstanding association with Magazzino—through exhibitions, The Olnick Spanu Art Program, and publications—has thoroughly enriched our lives and the lives of our visitors. To Salvadori, museum co-founder Nancy Olnick has said, “The friendship we have cultivated over the years means so much to us and being in your presence and in the presence of your art always brings us joy.”
We at Magazzino are deeply saddened by the recent passing of our dear friend, Remo Salvadori.
