Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu were pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Murano: Glass from the Olnick Spanu Collection, featuring a selection of Murano glassworks dating from 1914 to 1933 on display at the Consulate General of Italy in New York.
Open by appointment from December 5, 2016 through February 24, 2017, the exhibition was a tribute to the celebrations of the 70th Anniversary of the Italian Republic and is part of a cycle of events associated with La Serenissima: Music and Arts from the Venetian Republic festival, that salutes the stunning artist legacy of the Venetian Republic. Led by Carnegie Hall, its program of events took place from February 3rd to February 21st, 2017, during Venice’s famed Carnevale.
The Olnick Spanu Collection of hand-blown Murano glass is a breathtaking tribute to craft and design, color and light, featuring over 500 hand-blown works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Nancy and Giorgio’s glass collection includes artists such as Artisti Barovier, Carlo Scarpa, Ercole Barovier, Napoleone Martinuzzi, Massimo Vignelli and Vittorio Zecchin.
Venetian Glass: The Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu Collection was first presented at the Craft Museum, today The Museum of Arts and Design, in New York City, from September 13, 2000 to January 6, 2001. A revised exhibition titled Murano: Vetri dalla Collezione Olnick Spanu traveled to Italy at Milan’s Spazio Oberdan from September 29, 2001 to December 9, 2001. In October 2003, Murano: Glass from the Olnick Spanu Collection exhibition began a North American tour with a layout designed by Massimo and Lella Vignelli and David Law. A fully illustrated book designed by Massimo Vignelli was prepared for the exhibitions in cooperation with Venetian glass historian Marino Barovier, featuring spectacular photographs made by Luca Vignelli.
