Raphael Recut: Tunics, Thought, and Modern Painting

Lecture and Workshop with artist Vittoria Chierici

Artist Vittoria Chierici presents a lecture-workshop inspired by her reinterpretation of the tunics in Raphael’s School of Athens. Drawing on her long engagement with the fresco, Chierici explores how drapery, color, gesture, and abstraction can transform a canonical Renaissance image into a field of contemporary artistic thought. The program will begin with a talk on her project and her broader reflections on technique, modern art, and the enduring theatrical power of Raphael’s composition. It will then open into a participatory workshop in which attendees will work with fabrics and experiment with designing tunics of their own, considering textiles as instruments of movement, structure, and visual philosophy.
