Jog Blues

Magazzino's summer concerts return to the courtyard

Jog Blues brings together masters of jazz, blues and Indian classical music in a 21st century mix, creating an experience drawing from deep traditions while also swinging towards the future. The band, featuring Andy Biskin (clarinet, bass clarinet), Ikhlaq Hussain (sitar), Jake Charkey (cello), Joel Bluestein (electric guitar), Jonathan Rose (bass, harmonica), Mir Naqibul Islam (tabla), and Siddartha Mukherjee (vocals), is named for the Indian midnight raga and the blues, arguably the most American of music genres.

An integral part of both raga and blues - two genres of focus for the band - Jog Blues’s performance at Magazzino explored composition and improvisation, celebrating an international blend of musical expression. According to Jog Blues, it is composition which provides form and improvisation which organically grows out of the space of musicians listening deeply to each other. This product invites the audience to do the same and results in a communal journey, guided by music, into the suffering, joys and liberation of the human experience.
