Hold Me While I’m Naked: Sexuality & the Body in Culture, from the 1970s to the Present

Hold Me While I’m Naked begins with the artistic practice of Beatrice Favaretto and unfolds as a conversation among different approaches to sexuality, the body, and their representation in culture.

The discussion brings together artist and researcher Beatrice Favaretto, scholar Alessandra Mulè, and film historian Gerard Damiano Jr., whose practices and fields of research offer distinct, and sometimes opposing, perspectives on audiovisual culture, writing, and self-representation, from artistic research to feminist politics and the relationship between the body, labor, and power.

The conversation will move across different periods, practices, and forms of knowledge, examining how the body has been represented, regulated, and reclaimed from the 1970s to the present. We will consider sexuality a cultural and collective space where desire, intimacy, pleasure, resistance, and conflict can take shape.

This research project is granted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture under the Italian Council program (14th edition, 2025), which aims to promote Italian contemporary art worldwide.
