Nivola: Sandscapes

A behind-the-scenes look into the installation of the exhibition Nivola: Sandscapes.

Magazzino Italian Art was proud to present a short film titled Nivola: Sandscapes, by Domenico Palma, which provided a behind-the-scenes look into the exhibition Nivola: Sandscapes, currently on view at Magazzino Italian Art from May 8, 2021 through January 10, 2022. The film featured interviews with the curator of the show and Magazzino Italian Art’s 2020-21 Scholar-in-Residence Teresa Kittler and Magazzino's Director Vittorio Calabrese.

The short film showed a behind-the-scenes look into the installation of the exhibition Nivola: Sandscapes, which explored the artist’s pioneering process of sandcast sculpting. Featuring a selection of approximately 50 works from the early 1950s to the 1970s, including sandcast reliefs, carved concrete sculptures, and rarely seen maquettes of his most important architectural commissions, this focused presentation examined the artistic process, range of influences, and notable impact that Nivola had on modern urban architecture and design.
