The opening of the exhibition took place on September 25, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Young Italians was conceived as a 50th anniversary tribute to the show of the same name, curated by Alan Solomon, which took place at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the Jewish Museum in New York in 1968, featuring the work of twelve young Italian artists of that time. The exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute, which was on view from September 25 until November 1, 2018, featured twelve Italian artists, under the age of 40, all of whom were either born, grew up in or currently work in Italy. Also included were Italian artists who have moved to New York, in order to examine the extent to which Italian culture is present in their work and the interplay between exact location and displacement.

"The performance's main focus is not about the individual conception of it by the artist, but about the fusion and involvement between the people in the artistic world and those you may encounter on the street, who are part of the common and daily life." With these words, Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto addressed one of the main tenets of his recurring Walking Sculpture performance, the latest of which was organized by Magazzino Italian Art on November 4, 2017, down the streets of Cold Spring, New York.
