In the spirit of finding a collective community voice and building on her 2019 processional performance in the Village of Cold Spring, Marinella Senatore and The School of Narrative Dance, Magazzino Italian Art and artist Marinella Senatore will collaborate this fall to launch Cold Spring Soundtrack. Initiated through an open call starting on September 9, 2020, volunteers from the Hudson Valley region and beyond are invited to share short sound recordings of anything that feels reflective of their current moment. At the end of the period of open submissions, Senatore and composer Emiliano Branda will compose an original score that interweaves every sound recording received, creating a symphonic soundscape made up of the individual voices.
Participants can leave their recordings by calling +1 (845) 476-8409 and leaving a voicemail, sending a sound recording via text message to +1 (845) 476-8409, or email to email@example.com through November 7, 2020.
Senatore has put forth key words and examples of sounds for community members to respond and refer to in creating their own. Contributions should be between a minimum of 3 seconds and a maximum of 5 minutes. Every contribution shared will be included in the final piece.
Examples of possible contributions include: Ambient noises from the outdoors, your home, your workplace, your school. Your voice. A voice. A conversation you had. A conversation you overheard. A banging noise. A song you wrote. A song you like. You singing a song you like. A protest. A recording of practicing your instrument. Choir practice. Band practice. Vocal chanting. A recording of the sounds you make while doing chores, while you’re cooking, while you’re drawing, while you’re writing, while you’re reading, while you’re running. Your cat. Your dog. Silence. Any noise that feels reflective of where you are and who you are today is welcome. If you can’t record what you’d like to share, verbal descriptions of the sound are welcome.
